Fabric London Reviews

Clerkenwell cool - When I heard that Sheffield band Reverend and The Makers were doing a live set at Fabric, I thought that I could get to see a fantastic band and check out the club at the same time. I've never been to a club in London before as they are just not my scene but had heard a lot about Fabric and was keen to check it out.

We got there early (by club standards) and had a look round. It takes a while to get your bearings as the place is vast, full of lots of rooms on different levels with seating areas and bars dotted here and there. It didn't feel very cosy, more industrial, which was probably down to the huge brick arches and metalwork.

The beer was reasonably priced and entrance was £15 - which included live music and allowed you to stay till 5am (if you wished!).
The band played on a small stage in 1 of the 3 rooms and the sound and intimacy of the room made for a lively evening. It seemed that the majority of people in the club were there to see the band as a lot of people (me included) left when the band had finished.

As we had got there early we had managed to avoid the legendary queues that had formed while we were inside. I won't be rushing back to Fabric, unless of course there is another cool band to see....

Earthshaking Bass - Fabric is just round the corner from Turnmills or better the other way round. However, it is a relatively BIG space, which can be a challenge in a time when dance music moves again a bit more underground. It seems, however, been able to survive somehow. While I only went a few times, I would say the big attribute is undeniably an earth moving sound system, which has been very well thought through. This is good for all kinds of music but particularly breaks, house, tekki stuff and electro. It is a serious space for live acts and I would say Fabric has to be checked out at least once. The feel is BIG, not cosy, it takes time to settle in there and the queues outside are legendary, bring an umbrella if it rains. A Barclays cash machine is just next door and there seem to be always enough cabs or you walk the short way to Farringdon tube for the way back (or go for an after clubbing coffee or breakfast in Soho when you don't mind a 20 minute walk in the morning, which could be quite nice if the weather is favourable)
