The Orangery London Reviews

Terrible tea - Waited in a queue for about 20 minutes on a Sunday afternoon to get a table for three at this tearoom.

I had been very curious about it since I had played in the garden outside the Orangery often as a child.

The experience was terrible.

Two of us had the same kind of tea and one of us had a different kind. The tea that the two of us shared arrived as a tepid pot of what my mother would refer to as dishwater. I beckoned to the waitress and told her the tea was too weak. She said: "What would you like me to do about it?"

I told her I wanted her to take it back and bring a better pot with more tealeaves in it. She did and later I asked for more water because they don't provide an extra pot of hot water the way they should. When I asked for more, the waitress said: "If I bring you more water, then it will be watery again!" What an imbecile. I told her to bring it anyway.

The friend who had her own kind of tea asked for a separate jug of milk. The waitress told her that when we'd finished the milk already on the table she could have more! The tea in this small pot arrived as a bag, not as leaves. Although there is the choice on the menu, my friend did not ask for a bag, so they should have brought leaves.

The sandwiches were tasty, but evidently made up ahead of time and left out uncovered because the bread was drying out.

The pastry on the tarts was soft and the scones hard and I think stale. If not stale, then they were very dried out.

The waitress had to be asked to clear away the dirty dishes so that we could try and enjoy the remains of our watery tea.

The teas ended up costing 28 pounds each! At that price one expects decent tea and decent service.

The waitress was insolent and had no idea how to provide good and impartial service.

I did pay the included service charge and then went to complain before we left. I told them that I thought the things listed above were not good for their business.

The manager took my contact information and said she'd get back to me during the week about it. She never did.

The host was very civil and came outside and apologized to all of us.
