Buckingham Palace London Reviews

Free Fun for all the family! - The Changing of the Guard at Buckingham Palace.

The Queen's Guard usually consists of Foot Guards in full-dress uniform of red tunics and bearskins.
Buckingham Palace - The Changing of the Guard takes place in the forecourt of Buckingham Palace at 11.30 am, every other day and lasts about 45 minutes.

The ceremony is usually accompanied by a Guards Band, with music played ranges from traditional military marches to songs from the shows and even familiar pop songs.

When HM Queen Eliziabeth II is in residence, there are four sentries at the front of the building. When she is away there are two.

The Household troops have guarded the Sovereign and Royal Palaces since 1660. Until 1689, the Sovereign lived mainly at the Palace of Whitehall and was guarded there by the Household Cavalry.

In 1698, the court moved to St James's Palace, which was guarded by the Foot Guards. When Queen Victoria moved in to Buckingham Palace in 1837, the Queen's Guard remained at St James's Palace, with a detachment guarding Buckingham Palace, as it has done ever since.

There is no Changing of the Guard in very wet weather. Buckingham Palace is immediately adjacent to St James's Park and The Green Park.

A must do when Visiting London - and it's free.

It's best to get there early to find a good spot to see through the Palace gates - or to get the best viewing point from the Victoria Memorial in front of Buckingham Palace.

Enjoy.
