Hoxton Tapas London Reviews

Terrible food but good location - The drinks were fine, location excellent but the food... the food was absolutely terrible.

The so called 'valencia paella' was the worst thing by far. It was a joke in fact. You pay £15 and you get two portions but were a bit puzzled when it came straight away when proper paella is supposed to take 30 mins to cook. We later found out the paella just sits on the bar and had probably been there for a couple of hours before we ordered it. £15 for dried up microwaved paella. Ripped off.

The (microwaved) tapas were at best mediocre and v. expensive for the size of the portions.

I would go back for drinks and to sit outside, but I would never, ever order food again in a million years.

Truely Awful - Microwaved food, inept staff, no table service (but you are still encouraged to leave a tip though!). The only thing saving this from no stars i the location and large outdoor area. Seriously, if you want good Tapas walk to Laxeiro on Columbia Road (5mins) or Maison Los Barilles at Spitalfields market (10mins). Both have fresh food and staff who have a clue. If you just want to sit outside and have rubbish food and be served by morons go here.

Better Than I Expected - Don't ask me why, but having walked past this Tapas bar innumerable times, I had never expected it to be any good. Finally, one of my friends dragged me there to prove that it wasn't so bad after all. And you know what? They were right.
Located on the South-East corner of Hoxton Square, one would have to expect the worst in terms of a hipster clientele, but actually I didn't experience any of that. The place is made up of two floors (which was only revealed to me at the end of the meal), with table service downstairs and counter service upstairs. Upstairs also has communal tables, which I actually found to be a nice touch.
The menu is pretty large, with a lot of different kind of small plates to eat, including lots of veggie options and (my favourite) yummy cheeses.
So there were a few problems with the meal, including our dishes being brought to us without cutlery and serviettes, but nothing that ruined the whole experience. We opted for a pitcher of sangria for the group of us, which was refreshing but could have had a bit more oomph.
Still, the place was well suited for a group of friends to have a casual meal, and the prices weren't too outrageous. Although I won't necessarily rush back right away, I will no longer turn up my nose at it.
