South Kensington Bargain - Finding food around South Ken can be tricky. True, there are loads of restaurants, but nearly all of them are expensive with only semi-decent food. La Grande Bouchee is a great place to go when you just need a sandwich or a simple lunch. The price of the meal is half what you would spend at Pret or Nero, both of which are predictably right around the corner and always packed at lunch.
The sandwiches are good, not dancing in the street amazing, but good and cheap. The minus here is that it can get overrun with chain-smoking students from the Lycée Français during their lunch break, although they tend to congregate around other seedier restaurants on the street more that this one. The plus is that service is very fast and you can take your food and eat it elsewhere.
