Harvilles is a relaxed Art Deco influenced restaurant and bar, located on York's premier restaurant street. The Oyster Cellar has one of the finest selections of Champagne in the region and is a delightfully intimate place to meet friends and enjoy the freshest seafood from their menus and daily changing blackboards.

Call me fussy but - I visited Harvilles with great expectations; after all they had an Oyster Bar but sadly this was not open on both occasions so we chose to dine in the restaurant.

We both enjoy fish dishes and when they arrived, they looked beautiful. The presentation could not be faulted and it looked divine. The fish was cooked beautifully; just right, however it totally lacked flavour.

We have visited on two occasions and have been disappointed both times and so will not be returning any time soon.

Beast restaurant in York? maybe not - We visited this restaurant on Friday night it was healthily busy. The waiter took our coats as soon as we arrived and showed us to our table. The decor was trendy with a retro feel and the ambiance was relaxing. The sea food gumbo was outstanding with a mix of Cray fish, cod, monk fish, shrimp, muscles and salmon. My girl friend had Tomato and basil soup which she enjoyed although her main of long horn sirloin was more medium when she asked for it medium well but I enjoyed the taste! I was very disappointed with my main of Crab it was cold there is no way they pulled it out of there tank and got it that cold in the amount of time it got to our table so saying there fresh is a bit of a con. All in all the service was brilliant the food was of a good standard however the disappointment of the night was the price was a little high for the steak and the crab was not fresh as stated 7/10

So long and thanks for all the meat - Yes there is a good selection of fish but the restaurant takes its steak pretty seriously to. You can choose between English Longhorn and Aberdeen Angus or if you wanna go to town (and we did), you can opt for the The Cattleman's. This is shared between two and consists of five cuts of prime beef steaks all served on a chopping board. It's a winner.

On the menu they have a cooking chart that describes what they mean by Blue, Rare, Medium Rare, Medium, Medium Well and Well Done so chances are you're going to get your steak cooked exactly how you want. Voted the city's best restaurant by York Tourism in 2008, it's not hard to see why.
