Papadoms London Reviews

Had to ask 5 times for water - I guess you go to Brick Lane not expecting the greatest of meals but it's fun, you're about to start a big night out and it's cheap.

This place is right in the middle of the action. Unassuming from the outside in fact it looks like all the other places up and down the street. So let me get right to it. We had some friends visiting from the States and thought we would bring them to Brick Lane for the atmosphere mostly. We didn't get far before the steady sales pitches began turning a meal into a kind of desperate bargain hunt. How did we choose this one? I think we were worn out, hungry and just gave in.

It's cheap and if you haggle with the man outside you can get a bottle of wine and 30% off your bill. The experience of eating along Brick Lane is colourful and cultural which i suppose is why it attracts streams of people every night but the process of being harassed by men giving the hard sell on your dinner 'here's what i'll do for you...' gets tedious fast.

We belived the man outside when he said the difference with Papadoms was that inside we would be treated like family, the service would be impeccable he promised.

The waiters were like a dysfunctional family, no one seemed to be in charge or remember orders, they got the bill wrong and only gave us 20% discount, we asked for water 5 times and only got it when one of us stood at the counter and literally brought it back to the table ourselves. While we ate three tables of couples were asked to move table during their meals so that bigger parties could be accommodated. The graffiti in the loo said it all 'this restaurant is lazy.' The sink was blocked up in the loo and water was pouring down onto the floor.

Unfortunately the food was decent, not too greasy and fairly good portions but the service was disastrous, rushed, absentminded.
