Complete rip off and VERY rude!!!!!
I got a taxi from Watford hospital last night with this company to my home in Hemel Hempstead. We phoned up and asked for a quote and they told us £25. Unfortunately we only had £20 so we made a deal with the operator that we would give the driver the £20 and we would pay the extra £5 on card in the morning (as that is when the money cleared in our account)
The operator was fine with this and even took our numbers to call back and confirm with us when the taxi arrived.
We gave the driver our £20 as soon as we got in the car and even confirmed with him that we would pay the extra in the morning. He said yes that's what he had been told. There was no mention by either driver or operator that we would have to pay more than £5 in the morning.
So you can imagine our surprise when we called up this morning to pay the £5 that she was told we would in fact have to pay £11. £6 extra to what we were told and had confirmed several times. We were expecting a 10% surcharge as most taxi companies have this when you pay by card. But we didn't expect it to double!
We explained to the operator that we were told by the operator last night that we would only have to pay £5. She then said that their minimum on card is £10 plus a 10% surcharge (had we been told this last night we wouldn't have bothered and just got a local Hemel taxi to pick us up as they were charging around £31 and were fine with us paying the rest on the card. We went with Amber Cars because we believed they were the cheaper option. Boy were we wrong!)
We said we were not happy about pay the extra £6 and that we could have just left it and not paid (showing that we are trust worthy etc) to which the operator bluntly replied 'we would have called the police on you. Next time you book a taxi make sure you have the right amount of money' to which we replied that it was an emergency of having to take our baby to the hospital and that we only had £20 between us and the operator last night did not mention anything about minimum payments or surcharges. If we had known we would have only given the driver £15 and paid the extra £10 this morning plus the surcharge.
To which she said 'don't book a taxi if you don't have the money' and put the phone down. She didn't even listen to our reasoning behind what had happened and that we were following the agreement and advice of their nighttime operator.
It is not really the money that has annoyed about this company. It is the sheer rudeness and lack of communication between them and customers. The fact we had confirmed the amount we would have to pay and were then met with an extra £6 and the rude attitude of one of their employees.
I wouldn't recommend this company. I would sooner walk next time.
