Perfect for a special occasion - Le Cassoulet is almost goood enough to have a Michelin Star (my pâté was to die for), but there are a couple of little things that let it down. It's not the standard of cooking that's at fault - that's beautiful - but rather the presentation.

Side salads are all well and good if they're thought out, but mine looked a little bit like it had emerged from a Tesco pre-packed bag. Not a great garnish.

I also didn't like the fact that the plates were branded as "Le Cassoulet". I knew where I was and felt that it cheapened the table setting a little! It was more what I'd expect to see in a mass chain restaurant.

These are just tiny little things, but in a higher class restaurant, which Le Cassoulet is aiming to be, it's the tiny little things that count, isn't it?

The service was efficient and friendly and the room pleasantly decorated and spacious. Each table has plenty of room so that you don't feel crammed in, table to table. All good!

It's a perfect location for a grown-up special event or a special Sunday lunch with parents.

We came home stuffed and happy and wouldn't hesitate to return.

Stunning food, stifled ambience - The food here is incredible. Fully recommended for a smart night out (in croydon)!

But the service is a little OTT, and the clientele are a little snooty.

Still worth it for the food. 06-01-09
