Gordon Ramsay's Plane Food London Reviews

Ramsay Limps Into The Air - I was looking forward to visiting Plane Food on my first visit to Heathrow's (and BA's) Terminal 5 yesterday but my experience was just OK.

There was a 10 minute wait for a table for two which really didn't matter as we had arrived in plenty of time. The decor is very urban chic and the customers were the well heeled type plus young and groovy couples with babies.

I chose a Roast Chicken main dish with mushroom and bacon which was delicious while my better half had a Croque Madame which was underwhelming. We had a side of chips with the meals and they were fantastic (even if the portion sizes were a bit stingey).

So that's the good bit. Unfortunately slow service (ordering and getting the bill) let them down and a trip to an overused and messy loo was off-putting to say the least. I have only ever been to one other Ramsay restaurant before, Foxtrot-Oscar, which was excellent in all respects and I was hoping for a repeat performance. I appreciate that an airport terminal is very different to a Chelsea restaurant but the apathetic service was a surprise.

Plane Food was OK but with the choice available at Terminal 5 I will likely choose another restaurant when I am next at Heathrow.

Good Plane Food - Maybe the best way to eat a Gordon Ramsay meal in these tough times, and a great way to start a trip. My wife and I stopped in last week on our way out of the country. We both had the lentil soup with chickpeas to start, she had main of salmon fishcakes, I had the Thai duck salad, and I had a small carafe of wine, total £53. All were delicious and executed perfectly.

The space is contemporary and comfortable, put me in the right mood for holiday. In fact all of T5 is pretty nice by airport (especially Heathrow) standards.

If you care, the head chef is Nathan Johnson under the leadership of Stuart Gillies (Boxwood Café).
