Skate Bitch! Nuff said! - The first time I ventured down to the monthly rollerskating jam named Skate Bitch I was filled with three things: hope (that I would be as awesome on skates as I was the last time I used them... a-hem... when I was 6), fear (that I wouldn't be) and carbs (because I was told to be prepared for a workout). I left with jelly legs, rock hard buns*, and the kind of pride that, thankfully, didn't come before a fall. It turns out that rollerskating isn't as scary as it sounds. And at Skate Bitch, not only can you deck yourself out in full old school padding, but there are safety marshalls and instructors who can show you the basics if you need help. The music isn't your usual 80s and 90s best-of schlock either, but a choice selection of soul, hiphop and disco. Guest DJs often pop up (Ty spun for a few hours when I was there last). Oh and if you do happen to bruise your ego there is free massage all night! A good smokers section out the back for the naughty kids too. My only gripe is with the door staff who are not only extremely unfriendly but also rather over-zealous with their bag searching, chewing gum and water confiscation, and allround needless security posturing. But once you're past them and inside, it's all about the hotpants, the light-up wheels, and the dance flaw!
*Otherwise inappropriate and inexcusable gluteous euphemism used only due to cheesy context.
