Rhodes Bakery London Reviews

Recommended - Great pastries and even better Cappuccino -with professional and polite service on all of the 3-4 times I've visited. Reasonably prices as well!....what more could you ask for from a local bakery-ideal place to come and get supplies to take home for lazy mornings with the papers....

I don't normally contribute to reviews was both suprised and disappointed to see that 1-2 contributors had a mixed experience and keen to redress the balance (as were are precious few reviews as of 13th Jan 09). For the record I would always choose Rhodes for a coffee over any of the other better known chains in SE10

Lovely, yummy bakery - I have visited Rhodes Bakery in Greenwich a few times and I am very impressed by their high standards. The shop itself is beautiful, and their freshly baked cakes are very, very good. Have bought lunch here many times, and the filled sandwiches have always been fresh and tasty. They vary their sandwiches with all different styles of artisan bread, and serve hot paninis too.
An extra bonus is the coffee, which is all organic and Faitrade. Keep up the good work, I know where I will do my Christmas cake shopping!!!

VIOLENT FOOD POISONING - RHODES - Having just had lunch (filled baguettes) at Rhodes I am now dealing with my husbands violent food poisoning... Believe me, mopping up vomit from the bathroom floor is not what you want to be doing at 41 weeks pregnant. And knowing that I've eaten somewhere with such poor hygiene standards that I could have put myself and baby at risk is not helping.... Its not good enough. What a shame was very excited at making this a regular place but will not be visiting again.

Baked in Greenwich - I've just had a Latte (£2.10) and a chocolate muffin (£1.30) from Rhodes. The muffin was delicious but the coffee was no better than Starbucks/Costa/Any Large Coffee Chain.

Since they opened a couple of months ago, I've also tried the 'world famous' chocolate brownie twice and not been impressed either time - it's very dry and not very chocolatey.

The staff are always friendly and efficient, although they have a strange system whereby one person takes your order and passes it to someone else on the till who takes your money. This works OK when it's not busy but if they're serving a lot of people at once it gets confusing.

All in all, it's a decent 'gourmet style' bakery/patisserie that has a good selection of cakes, tarts, sandwiches and bread. I'll be going back again if only to support a local business rather than the countless chains that are so fond of Greenwich.
