Bodean's BBQ London Reviews

Strange mix with ok food - I visited Bodean's BBQ for it's convenient location prior to a London Walk meeting at Tower Hill underground station. I was with a small group and we had pre-booked, although at 6pm on Saturday this was not neccessary.

The menu was a mixture of American BBQ and tex-mex style dishes, with pulled pork, ribs, steaks, burgers, burritos etc. It was ok, nothing spectacular and the service was also nothing to either complain or write home about.

A decent place to go if it's a quick in and out, convenient experience you are after but I wouldn't recommend it for a memorable meal.

America Redux - What a head trip: baseball on the television, Guns n' Roses playing in the background, Texas-ranch-like decor, root beer in the fridge, and massive piles of meat. What country is this again? Oh, is that the Tower of London across the street?

For American longing for a little taste of home, Bodean's more than does the trick - in fact it kind of overdoes it a bit for me to the point that I felt like I was in an American themepark at times. But how can you complain when there's root beer and barbecue?

The portions are generous, the flavors good, everything is a little overcooked (the curse of nearly all barbecue joints) but this is easily remedied by drenching it in hot sauce until you don't notice. One complaint: you got root beer, grab some vanilla ice cream and make some floats - easy as pie.

Really handy location right by Tower Hill tube station, although a slightly weird use of space: the ground floor is for quick meals and lunch (I think?) but the restaurant is hidden downstairs. In the evenings the ground floor is always empty which makes the restaurant look barren and unpopular - not the greatest planning, but people do seem to be finding their way to the downstairs nonetheless.
