With warm blends of cheese, chicken or beef marinated in rich Indian spices, Kati Rolls are really good food. Plain and simple.

Kati Roll Company London Reviews

A little slice of Kolkata - I first encoutered paratha/kati rolls on a recent trip to Kolkata. I've never seen them in Mumbai (my Indian hometown) even though I'm sure you can get them - probably because I don't look past the pav bhaji.

So when I saw Anjali R.'s review of the Kati Roll company I was quite excited, because I really enjoyed eating them when I was away. I have to say the taste is quite authentic, but definitely will agree with Anjali in that:
a) they take too long (especially for take-away, I don't think I would mind as much if I was eating in)
b) they are expensive for what they are. Especially because one is definitely not enough to fill you up. Plus, you can only get discounts if you have two of the same roll, which makes you feel a bit cheated.

Definitely more an out-and-about snack than everyday lunch option, but enjoyable none the less.

Now I'm just on the lookout for somewhere that does authentic Bengali (Indian side) cuisine.

Indian street food in London, yeah! - I used to frequent the Kati Roll Company in New York, and was excited to hear that it opened a branch in London last year. I've been there quite a few times now, and love the food, but then I'm from India so I may be biased. It still looks brand new - and I've spoken to the guys who run the place and they say there isn't as much clientele as they hoped when they opened which is sad because the New York branches are packed all the time. The food - only kati rolls (as per the name, duh!!), which is an Indian chapati with different fillings - is rather good. I particularly love the chicken and egg one, and the lamb one. My only negative comment would be that they take a bit too long to make the rolls, and it is slightly highly priced, but I assume it's the location/inflation etc. etc. One roll is around £4.50 which is not too bad but then you can have bigger fuller meals for that price, so I guess if you feel like eating a kati roll then it's absolutely worth it to come here but otherwise I suspect people wouldn't bother. I like the decor - old Hindi film posters.
