Viva Italia at Locale Balham - We dropped into Locale Balham to check out the latest addition to the trendy town's crowded eatery scene. The latest in the Locale consortium, the Balham venue has recently undergone a six figure refurbishment overseen by award winning interior designer Brigitte D'Angelo. The result brings the popular neighbourhood Italian up to date and arms it with a stylish, fresh new look that rivals the most trendy of Balham's bars and restaurants. Food themed colours predominate throughout the venue; pistachio and chocolate upholstery in the bar area is teamed with cherry wood tables, while silk and taffeta add a dash of luxury to what remains an uncomplicated, approachable venue.

The mantra at Locale seems to be good quality, authentic Italian food, attentive service and pleasant surroundings - essentially eating out without breaking the bank. Executive Chef Gianpaulo Barone has created a menu crammed with firm favorites such as pizzas, pastas and homemade meatballs with spaghetti, but there are plenty of Chef's daily specials and a good range of fish, steak and salads.

The sunny terrace is perfect for Al Fresco dining, or just relaxing with a cocktail after work. Unlike other London venues, there is no rush to vacate your table and the size of the terrace means there is plenty of capacity for groups, or families with buggies and other kit.
