Le Bistro du Coin London Reviews

Oohlala, delicieux! - We went to this restaurant for the first time last night with my husband for Valentine's dinner and we were pleasantly surprised by the nice atmosphere and the succulent food and wine served.

I started with the scallops then had the filet of beef and finished with an amazing chocolate fondant but I couldn't resist to try my husband's tart tatin which was lovely. We had a very nice time and we will definitely be back!

Merci beaucoup.

What a wonderful night.. -
Me and my partner we went for meal at le bistro du coin and what a nice place!
the food was really tasty, I had batter fried squid to start and my partner had a smoked duck salad follow by calves liver and a chicken breast stuffed with spinach along with a creamy sauce is just wow...!
And we finished it with lovely desert strawberry Pavlova
I highly recommend it

This Bistro Gets Better Each Time - This is my fourth time at Le Bistro du Coin over 2 months, and each time it gets better and better. We were quickly greeted in a welcoming friendly manner, and this set the tone for a wonderful meal. I started with the scallops which smelled and tasted delicious. This was followed by the Fillet of Venison which was cooked to perfection. My dining companion started with the onion soup followed by the duck confit, top marks here too!
My only regret is I had no room left for dessert. Can't wait for next time!

Sadly Disappointing - Le Bistro du Coin looked so promising from the outside so we, myself and my wife and 14 year old child, decided to take a chance. The service was very attentive so we thought it was a good sign. Our starters arrived, and what a terrible let down. The scallops were undercooked on a bed of under-seasoned cabbage gloup. (I actually spat my food out Gordon Ramsay style into my napkin). Prawns which were seasoned with some completely unsuitable mystery herb which made them taste weirdly stale. The calamari which my son ordered were just fine. Quite good actually which made us ....er 'foodies' feel even more frustrated. Credit to the staff who didn't charge us for the two nasty starters. Main course. We ordered steak after abandoning an initial fish stew order due to a feeling of uncertainty. The Angus steak so nearly there, but the meat was so over seasoned that we could only eat a quarter of it. My sons calves liver was still surprisingly edible considering that it looked like it had just re-entered the atmosphere a few minutes previously. We passed on deserts as it seemed like too much of a lottery at this stage. My 14 year old son said it would be more reliable to buy our dessert from the newsagent on the way home which frankly speaks volumes.
It a great shame. The service is attentive and the atmosphere of the room is just right but sadly, the food is so evidently not up to scratch. It's a relatively affluent area were people that dine out know what to expect for the prices charged. Cafe Anjou just shut down in Palmers Green. The service was below par there but the food was pretty good. Completely the reverse here. Maybe it's time to find new blood at Bistro du Coin. Afterwards we hopped across the road to the Cherry Tree pub for dessert which was priced slightly less and extraordinarily good. This prompted me to write this review. I don't want my local pub to serve better quality food than the local French restaurant, it just isn't right! Come on, you really must do better than this. We love the concept. Please deliver!

Good food - For our first visit to this restaurant, we've decided to go for the set menu to try out the food first. We were pleasantly surprised by the flavoring of the food. All the dishes were well cooked. I had a lovely moules marnieres and the pear sorbet was divine!

We will definitely return to try out their a la carte menu.

the perfect evening! -
I had a wonderful evening here last week-end.
The food was delicious!
I started with the Tiger prawns salad, which was Devine. For the main I had calves liver with caramelised onions, which was cooked to perfection. Finally I had the cheese for dessert with warm home made bread which was heaven.
It was a perfect evening!
Plus the opportunity to chat with the chef adds to the whole dining experience...

I highly recommend this delightful restaurant in Southgate

Avoid...at all costs! - Have never been moved to write a review before, good or bad, but a brush with the worst meal out in living memory last night has spurred me on.

Packed like sardines with less than twelve inches between tables? Check. Offered and ordered a glass of champagne but palmed off with budget Prosecco? Check. Over an hour's wait between ordering and the starter arriving? Check. Miserable, miserly portions? Double check. All vegetables pre-cooked and refried in stale oil? Check. I could go on....Fawlty Towers without the gags. Just. Don't. Bother!
