School dinners - On a hot summers day I can think of few nicer places to sit in the city than outside the Waterside cafe. Sit by the Barbicans mad and fascinating water feature and have a chat before catching an event at the Barbican. The great ambience is why it's got three stars because it definitely isn't for the food!
The salads are alright, and for meat eaters the burgers looked okay, but otherwise the food is dull, insipid cafeteria fare. I was sucked in by a key lime pie, which was flavourless and disappointing.
I think one of the other restaurants has a terrace, so if you're hungry that might be a better option (although I've never eaten there).
