burnt by wax - AVOID UNLESS YOU WANT TO BE INJURED! I went for a hollywood wax last week. I've been having monthly hollywood waxes at other salons for around 8 years and have never had a problem before. The wax was far too hot, and despite me telling the therapist repeatedly that the wax was too hot, she ignored me and carried on. Eventually as she was near the end, I asked her more forcefully to do something about the temperature and she finally turned the temperature down. When she was finished and I was getting dressed, I looked at the temperature on the heater and it was 75 - this was after it was turned down, so it must have been even higher than that for most of the waxing. I looked into what the temperature for hot waxing should be and it's between 50-60. My skin was quite badly burnt - so much so that I needed to get an emergency appointment with my doctor who prescribed me pain killers and some cream for the burn. I called the salon to tell them, and the receptionist said she would get the manager to call me. I called repeatedly over the following week and kept getting told the manager was in meetings, out of the office, or would call me back. One week later I finally spoke to her. She didn't seem particularly concerned and just offered a refund for the treatment. I would have expected a worried phone call immediately after calling to say that I'd been badly burnt by one of her staff. I also would expect any therapist performing waxes to know something as basic as what temperature the hot wax should be. She should also test the wax on her own wrist before applying it to a client (and do something about it if they tell her it's burning them!!) Quite worrying to think that this therapist is still performing waxes on clients.
