Quiet Perfection - In London, a quiet restaurant is usually a bad sign. It usually means the food is bad; awesome restaurants are usually deafening because, well, they're awesome and everyone wants to go to them. Rosemary Lane somehow avoids this and manages to be highly acclaimed, well reviewed by all the right reviewers, amazing, and yet quiet and quaint. When Time Out picked Rosemary Lane as one of the top romantic spots to spend Valentine's Day, they really knew what they were talking about.

One explanation is the location, which is a bit out of most people's way in an unglamorous strip next to the DLR between Tower Gateway and Shadwell. On top of this, the restaurant is very subdued and one could easily walk by and not notice it. Once inside, the restaurant is an oasis of calm and comfy charm. The service is friendly and familiar - more like relatives than stuffy waiters. The food is top notch and reminiscent of nice California wine country cuisine with a southern French twist (in reality it's the other way around, but the California-heavy wine list makes it seem less French). Everything is a little on the rustic side to be Michelin-star caliber, and the prices are very reasonable, but everything is prepared with utmost care and a clear passion for great cuisine.

For your next romantic evening out, seek this one out. And maybe add on a show at Wilton's Music Hall, which is just 2 blocks away for a complete night out.
