Oh what has happened! - Once upon a time, Figaro's was the best caff in Moorgate, if not the city. The chirpy Italian owner and his funny quips, the decent food, the strong coffee. Today, after a few months away, I returned. The owner is still there, but the food is very poor. The five pound all-day breakfast looks great on the photograph hanging on the wall: a nice big long sausage, two rashes of lean bacon (no fat), two eggs, nice fries. Exactly what they used to look like. But today, I got one slimy egg, bacon which was almost entirely fat (I could only eat bits of it), a tiny sausage, and greasy chips. When I handed it over to one of the staff, having attempted to eat half of it, I pointed out the discrepancy. All I got was a shrug as he took the plate away and handed it to one of his Polish minions to srubbishe into the bin. No apology. No comment. Not even a goodbye. Just a shrug. I dare say I will not be returning. Ever. Adieu, Figaro. At least we now have Krügers next door.
