The Admiral Codrington reopened in June 1999 after a complete refurbishment, designed by Nina Campbell, and now has a separate bar and restaurant. The bar is comfortable and the restaurant serves good food in a separate, well designed area, complete with a removable roof for the summer. The inexpensive, simple English food is sure to be a success, especially in the midst of such expensive competition. Outside seating is provided on the terrace with heaters in the winter.

Hearty & inexpensive (for London!) - Tucked away on a side road just off of Sloane Avenue and King's Road is the upscale pub The Admiral Codrington.

They have a pretty standard bar with a limited wine list and a normal selection of alcohol as well. I had a nice glass of Pinot Noir which quickly turned into two bottles as our party had dinner there.

For the meal (dining room tucked off to the side, slightly more fancy than a standard pub setting) I had the salt-and-pepper squid with lemon aoli (really delicious) and the quail and mushroom lasagna (way too cheesy and rich to really enjoy). For desert I had the honeycomb ice cream with chocolate sauce. There were far too few honeycombs in the ice cream for it to really count, but the thought was nice.

The service was decent and the prices were moderate for London, although certainly above what I'm used to paying, even in one of the most expensive cities in the US. Ah well. It's not like I wasn't aware of the price points.

I get the feeling that this (Chelsea) is a more upscale neighbourhood in London anyway, so for that, the prices are great.
