The British Museum stretches over 14 acres and has over 90 rooms, some with permanent exhibits including the Egyptian mummies as well as coins and medals dating from the Roman period. The museum also has a range of prints and drawings from Botticelli to Bonnard. In the later part of 2000 the museum underwent various significant changes. A whole new wing has been added, with many more exhibits and with the museum still being free of charge millions of people come and marvel.

The British Museum London Reviews

Something for everyone - A rating of superb might seem exaggerated, but The British Museum is honestly my favourite place in London. You could go every week for a year and still discover something new.

If you're short of time then the Highlights Tour is a good way of taking in some of the most popular exhibits, including the Rosetta Stone.

If you're a Londoner then I urge you not to overlook probably one of the greatest museums in the world.

So you're not a history buff - well neither am I. The British Museum is also a stunningly beautiful building - the marble main court and glass roof is particularly stunning on a sunny day.

The restaurant(not the ground floor cafeteria) is also a nice place for a tea break. I have yet to try the food.

If you're ever stuck for a day out in London, or even if you have a spare couple of hours, try the British Museum - it's free!

Mummies!!!!! - The British Museum is HUGE - seriously, a pack of 20 culture hungry Italian tourists probably couldn't cover it all in a day even if they split up into groups.

Anyway there are 2 bits I love - the first bit is upstairs and they have a loads and loads of mummies from egypt. It can all get a bit annoying as every tourist with a camera is posing for a photo next to Ramses or Tutenkhamun (sic). Anyway if you explore a little deeper they have a section that shows how much the Egyptians loved to mummify stuff - there's a glass cabinet with mummified cats, dogs, eels, snakes, mice, a monkey and some beetles. Ha! I love that section.

If you head more upstairs from there they have a section about Japan which I find a little boring for the most of it but right at the end they have loads of prints by Hokusai He was the dude that did that famous Japanese print of the wave with Mount Fuji in the background. It's from a series called 32 (or 25?) views of Mount Fuji and they have quite a lot of originals there. There's also a bunch of other good Japanese prints.

Like I said this place is huge and I haven't explored a lot but it's well worth going and its FREE!

Babylon: Myth and Reality - Well luckily little old me got in for free to an uncrowded private viewing (no champers though), but others will have to cough up £8.

On balance, I'd say it's worth it, especially if you're even a little bit interested in finding out more about Babylon. To be honest, I learnt quite a lot as I didn't even know it was real(!)

The really fascinating bits of this exhibition for me were the visual interpretations of Babylon from the distant past to the present. I think they should have made a lot more of the contemporary associations with Babylon although this is explored in the exhibition - e.g. links to the Iraq war, Rastafarians, pop culture references etc.

Worth a trip if you're interested and if you're headed to the Museum anyway then definitely check it out!
