American in London - Soho
12 Moor Street , Soho, London, W1D 5NG

Burgers and fries are the order of the day at this genuine 1950s American diner where the clientele sit on high stools facing the bar. There's a proper juke box which is usually playing something suitably rock 'n' roll. This branch has a takeaway facility.

Ed's Easy Diner London Reviews

Fast food in different surroundings - Ed's has a few franchises around the city but the Soho diner is what I regard as the definitive version of the chain.

Physically it is an American diner with a ridiculous amount of chrome and importantly a counter than runs around the grill meaning that all the customers kind of sit together at the bar. It feels to me like a little bubble of the rock 'n' roll Soho of Tommy Steele and Cliff Richard (regardless of whether it is genuine or not).

The menu has been expanded recently but at its heart this is still a burger and milkshake place that allows you to traipse in at any point in the day, order, eat and go. Fast food doesn't have to be complex and it doesn't have to be awful.

Ed's burgers aren't in the gourmet burger league, they are the basic paper-wrapped, American fast fry burger that used to be the staple fare of the burger restaurant.

The shakes are probably calorie nightmares but they are delicious and they are the only ice cream based shake I know of in the area.

It would seem that comfort food served quickly and kitsch Americana are all it takes to lift my day when I'm in need of break.
