Nummy food! Great service! - On a row of ethic food markets and kebab stands, you find a lovely little gastropub called St. Johns. We had a class nearby and ventured in for a Sunday lunch. It did not disappoint. It has a cosy atmosphere with fireplace and large wooden bar and big tables. They bring homemade bread to your table as you sit down and are very attentive (but not overly) throughout. The menu changes daily and the one we had that Sunday made it incredible hard to choose as everything sounded delicious. We finally went with the split pea & ham soup with cheese croutons (£5.75) which was a huge bowl so glad we shared. I had the Chermoula spiced salmon fillet with warm potato & cauliflower salad and yogurt dressing (£13) for my main. The salmon was HUGE! And so tasty. The spiciness with the yogurt sauce were perfect together. My husband has the pheasant breast confit leg, sprout tops, beetroot, red currant and thyme jus. He was in Heaven and we both practically licked our plates clean.

Definitely worth a yonder to this place if you’re in North London (only a couple minute walk from Archway Tube too).

Great Room - In addition to the previous review it is worth saying something about the great room that they have here.

The main pub leads to the back in to a vast room /annexed building with triple high ceilings with pictures and portraits the full height. It really is something extra to the usual pub dining room that makes this a 'location' gastro pub restaurant in the area.

We live a reasonable car drive out from the centre of London, but I still talk about the times I've visited here as being up with the best local pub restaurants in London. Rumoured to be George Michaels favourite as well!

A real gem of a place - One of the best gastro-pubs in London, without question. A real gem of a place if you are seeking good quality gastro-pub food, reasonably priced, great atmosphere and very good service. Make sure you book for dinner as the place in always busy. Have been eating here regularly for over 2 years and have never had a poor experience. Like the fact that there is very low staff tunover so you see regular faces.
