Gazzano's London Reviews

The Real Deal - This is the real deal in terms of Italian deli/food emporium.
Really great products.
Fresh garlic that is not dried out supermarket version. Sicillian tomatoes. Fresh pasta. Every type of dried pasta. Great olive oils and breads. Good selection of wines and those hard to get spirits. Racks and racks of Pandora, Panettone, Milanese etc.
My only gripe is that the coffee is average in the cafe. Not really up to standard.
But, took my girlfriend there and she was as happy as a dog with two tails.

BUON MANGIARE E VINO OTTIMO` - some 40 years ago when I ived in Holborn, I used to do my weekly shop at Gazzano. There also was another good Italian Deli, only a few yards away by name of Donatantonio, who also stocked wonderful Italian food products.
Since that time my family moved to Australia, and 39 years later here we are back in the UK.
We now live in Southampton Hampshire, and alas no Gazzano nor Donatantonio type of delicatessen can be found here.
Last week I travelled to London and there was Gazzano in the old place. There I bought my beloved goodies and wine. It is a long journey to come into Holborn from Southampton, and unless Gazzano would do a home delivery service, that lovely food will be as rare as rocking horse teeth for me.

Classic Italian Deli - Gazzano's is a shop, deli and cafe - I speak only for the deli and shop here as I've not dined in...

This is a true gem of a place for Clerkenwellians (and those passing through) who enjoy cooking or preparing Italian-inspired meals at home. I use these words carefully - I'm not the cook in our house but even I can 'prepare' an excellent weekend spread of pecorino toscano, anchovy-stuffed olives, roast ham off the bone, perhaps some basil pesto or sun-dried toms with the ubiquitous fresh ciabatta or pugliese loaf. And the cook of the house regularly selects from the extensive range of pasta (fresh or dried), grabs a punnet of cherry toms and fresh, fragrant basil from the counter to 'cook' an easy, delicious dinner. There is also an overwhelming selection of sweet-treats - I love home baking but often can't walk past the large bags of nutty biscotti, or a panettone to toast for Sunday brunch. Service is cheerful and swift - even when the place is packed out mid-Saturday morning or weekday lunchtimes - and although it'll depend on your individual shopping list I always feel like I'm getting good value for quality products.
