Giraffe London Reviews

NOT IMPRESSED - Kelli and I went here for Dinner after a day out in town ...and God I wish I had not.
The staff were pretty aweful, it seemed all that they were interested in was your Money and then getting you sat down, once you were there they were not interested in asking you what you wanted to eat or drink…

When we ordered the starters they were wrong, and it took me around 5-10 mins to point this out as people just walked past you and deliberalty ignored you…there seemed to be a STAFF night out which they obviously were all party too.. so US poor customers who were actually the paying the bills were just left.
.
When my main came, I honestly thought they were taking the mickey, Now let me set the scene, I love Japanese food and eat a lot of Wasabi so I thought as I often make in the house Wasabi rice would be nice with my Miso and Lime Salmon….that had to be the worst mistake I had ever made….the wasabi came in Lumps…actual lumps!!!!!!
I tried to make someone aware that there had to be some form of practical joke being played on me but no one really bothered stopping to ask if things were ok or when you did get someone eye they pretended that they were busy doing something else.

Needless to say when the bill came I asked the lady to stay there as I could not bother to be in the place any longer than I had too….Horrible Experience confounded by unprofessional staff and overpriced food…..Try Canteen next door went there in the past and had a fairly pleasant experience.

Love, Live, Eat - A sucker for a good brand, I had to go and try this place out a few weeks ago.

Nice, clean and modern vibe, and an interesting menu. My passion is for burgers, so naturally I was drawn to the 7oz English Burger. I had to go for extra toppings as lettuce, tomato and onions were not quite enough for me. Cheddar and fried onions added I waited with anticipation.

Service was polite if a little slow and the burger when it eventually arrived wasn't bad. Not quite GBK standard and certainly not a patch on Cheeky Pete's, but hey it was OK. For what it was, it was quite expensive - £8.85 for a plain burger and another £1.50 for two extra toppings.

I will go back to try some of the other main courses on offer, the Hot Thai Duck Stir Fry sounds good.

Worst Waiter ... Ever? DO NOT GO - So today 7 of us went to this Giraffe. I had been to Giraffes before, but not this location, but knew what to expect - overpriced, but decent burgers, salads, etc. However, the service we received (or didn't receive should I say) was SHOCKINGLY appalling (the unsanitary way he handled the silverware, rude way he served drinks and food, etc.). We were patiently waiting for almost 20 minutes after we sat down for someone to take our orders, and I think because we were a younger looking group (university students).

The waiter was totally unprofessional in so many ways (I could go on and on), but the worst of many things he did was at the end when we were paying the bill (which we had to wait a long time for after asking for it). As we were in a group, all but one of us paid in cash, and the other wanted to put 11 pounds on her credit card. So finally our horrible waiter comes by and takes her card, which is taking an unusually long time going through the machine. Then he announces loudly, so all of us can hear, that her card has been declined. Embarassed, she knew she had money and asked him to do run the card again because it must not have worked properly - and he blatantly let out a sigh, rolled his eyes and said "well.... if you want." And then sure enough her card went through just fine.

Then he grabs are cash (too generously allowing for a 12.5% tip) and says "You guys left me enough cash right? Because if you didn't that comes out of my paycheck!"

I had to say something at this point, calmly telling him that I felt his comments and treatment towards us throughout the meal had been uncalled for and inappropriate, and he actually had the audacity to say over and over again "well if i didn't trust you i would have counted it okay? i would have counted it, doesn't that make sense to you?" and then he goes on to say that He has been working since 7am and is tired and asks me "Do you see how busy it gets in here? I've been working a long time okay..."

HELLO does the employee customer relationship not exist?!

I explained that I used to serve in a much busier restaurant (while being in school at the same time, mind you) and that's why I feel particularly upset about this. He continued his sarcasm and accusations until I walked out the door. Incredible.

He was not wearing a name tag, but looked about 25 or so, tall, slender enough with light brown hair. Avoid him like the plague!

Maybe an American-type chain? - I took my friend to Giraffe Sunday after our stroll through the now-trendy Spitafields Market. I’ve eaten at their other locations several times and it’s always consistently good. It kind of reminds me of some of the chains in the US (probably because it’s one of the few chains in London that actually serves an American breakfast with pancakes and also Mexican food which is even more rare over here) but one step up and slightly healthier. I usually opt for their burrito because it’s huge and cheesy and really yummy, but on Sunday we each had a very healthy option “superfood” type salad which was rocket, avocado, pumpkin seeds, broccoli, oregano feta and an herb vinaigrette. It was delicious! The cost was around £7.50. I don’t think anything on the menu is more than £8. The smoothie my friend had looked good, albeit small and slightly too liquidy for the £3.50 cost. Our drinks arrived after our food; not good timing. They also ran out of edamame and it took forever to get our bill so I ended up going inside to pay at the bar.

This place is a family restaurant so plan on seeing kids. It’s also a good place to go for a diverse menu where everyone will enjoy something.
