The Albion is an elegant late Georgian pub with a country atmosphere. They serve traditional British food including Sunday roasts as well as a wide range of ales. Major sporting events are available for viewing on TV. They also have a beer garden with vine-entwisted trellises and flower beds full of roses. Non smoking areas are provided.

The Albion London Reviews

Food Is Now Outstanding - I'm updating my previous review. Have been 3 times recetly on sunny days, and the food has been exceptional. They have a massive outdoor bbq going and everything coming off the grill has been great: pork chop, burgers, lamb. Hoping to try the suckling pig before summer ends.

Also the plants in the garden have filled in some so it's even nicer.

Don't go! - The Albion has the worst attitude towards its customers that I have ever encountered in around 50 years of restaurant-going, during which I must have spent hundreds of thousands of pounds on food and drink. When you order a meal, they demand that you give them your credit card, which they lodge behind the bar until you pay the bill. And before you ask – no , I do not look like a career criminal. I look ridiculously respectable and have, in fact, eaten dozens of times at the Albion before under previous managements.

I can understand that they may have a problem with dishonest folk who leave without paying, but I have never been treated as a potential criminal before in any pub, café or restaurant where I have eaten – and I’ve eaten in some pretty dodgy areas, believe me. The management of the Albion is extremely foolish, because just around the corner is the Draper’s Arms, with superior food and an appreciably better attitude.

I cancelled my order of food and wine and walked out. I shall not be returning to the Albion until it is under new management. If you don’t want to be treated like a criminal, I would advise you to boycott it too.

Best beer garden in London - UPDATE Sept 09:
They've revamped their menu and/or chef and it's wonderful now. Meat galore or healthy salad options, all featuring seasonal ingredients. It's my new favourite in N1.

The outdoor areas are what makes this place. On a warm day, it's so inviting with the nice tables in a well groomed garden of lavendar and newly planted trees and flowers.

OK, so the foods not so great unless you love meat (think heavy English pub food) but the beer garden definitely makes up for it. For the majority, it's a great boozer with a warm atmosphere and on a sunny day, there's no other place to be. They recently remodelled inside and out and it's very inviting. A cool Islington crowd hangs out there too.

If you're hungry though, watch out for the pork scratchings unless you're into that kind of snack which I'm clearly not.

Great Beer Garden - The Albion has just been refurbished and it turned out really well. They maintained the original character, while still modernizing just enough. They really cleaned up the back garden and now it’s one of the nicest around. Unfortunately when I ate there it wasn’t great. I had the pork belly and it was mostly belly. They tell me the beer selection will improve too once they finish out their existing contract.

But in the end it is really a lovely pub and the garden is the one of the best places around on a sunny weekend.
