Gourmet Buffet London Reviews

Brilliant Value and good food - I was inspired to write because the one person who had reviewed this restaurant had panned it. I couldn't disagree more!!

The evening Buffet is both excellent value and good food. My son loves it because there is an unlimited supply of crispy duck with pancakes. Loads of other nice things too. And you can even get some dishes specially made within the price.

As to badly behaved other diners, well it must have been an off night. Sure, it isn't The Ivy but hey!!!

The lunch menu is cheaper and more limited and personally I would only go for the evening menu (which has the crispy duck)but for an evening menue for £8.90 I think you should at least wander in and see the food...

Only a buffet? - “It’s only a buffet, what do you expect?” is one comment I received after complaining about this so-called restaurant. Well, I expect a reasonable meal in reasonable surroundings. Not too much to ask, surely?

The evening price at this Chinese buffet establishment is, at the time of writing, £8.90 but it could be half that price and I still wouldn’t go again. For some reason the restaurant seems to attract a high number of extremely ill-behaved people. The worst though is the food. Generally as bland and unpalatable as I’ve experienced, few of the dishes even resemble Chinese cooking. It probably doesn’t matter; not wishing to sound pompous but the suspicion is that few of the customers here have ever eaten authentic Chinese food, nor care to. The habit of serving sticky sauces to encourage customers to order more liquid refreshments is very much in evidence here.

Only a tube strike and laziness caused the visit to this dire place. Its convenient location can only explain its popularity but a little more effort to get to better quality kitchens would be more than amply rewarded.

Incidentally, a reviewer on another site gave a strangely positive review but ended with a comment about the food: “...be careful though as some of it can give you a bit of a stomach ache”. (!)
