Food Furniture was founded in February 2003 by Rupert Lacey who has been designing kitchens and free standing furniture for over 12 years. Rupert discovered a passion for the furniture industry whilst working on private luxury yachts during the 1980's. He realised that the quality of the cabinetry far exceeded the standards of normal household fixed and freestanding furniture. This insight inspired Rupert to put emphasis on the importance of well made furniture, cabinetry, planning and layouts. Once back on British shores he continued designing and making free standing commissions which developed from fitted furniture to kitchens, bedrooms, bathrooms and libraries. Rupert's love of cooking and therefore a first hand knowledge of what is required to make a kitchen an ideal working environment added another dimension, turning a personal passion into the birth of Food Furniture.
