New and Improved - Rising like a phoenix from the ashes, the Arab Boy, on Upper Richmond Road Putney SW15 has re-invented itself as a gastropub, having not so long ago been a fairly grim example of a London boozer with it's walls decked out in dodgy rock 'n' roll memorabilia and its punters staring into their glasses wondering how far it might be to the next decent hostelry.

Nowadays, the pub that reckons it might be 'the oldest pub in Putney' is a pleasant mix of drink and dine, with the front half being dedicated mostly to the drinkers and the rear half decked out with nicely sized tables, comfortable chairs and quietly quirky decor.

The menu is a good mix of a bit of everything, but with a bias towards fish - not JUST 'fish and chips', but also a choice of fresh dishes featuring a decent cast of piscine pleasures, though I confess I had a really nice piece of haddock done in the traditional batter and served with some pretty good chips and a small and thoroughly fresh salad garnish.

I paid about £30 for 2 mains, a pudding and 3 drinks... goodness knows how much I'd have spent if I'd taken anyone with me!
