yeah but no but yeah but no - Where to start with this place? The name perhaps. Its main name is Cats which is fine, although a little odd seeing as its a Thai restaurant and it immediately made us joke about what we were actually going to be eating. It turns out the owners like cats which is cool and there's a fetching painting (airbrush) on the wall of a kitten drinking a martini - AWESOME. What was confusing was why it was Cafe Des Artistes? We still couldn't work it out - Thai food, cats and artists - a bit too incongruous for my liking.
Next up the menu, oh wait actually the decor was mad, lots of heavy wood and leopard print - it actually felt like we were in some African dictators mansion - apart from the fact that we were sat in a kind of Thai funeral boat that had a glass top table with russian and turkish money underneath it!
Anyway the food, I ordered chicken wings stuffed with pork and prawn and some vegetarian spring rolls. The chicken wings were ok actually, kind of like wonton but with a chicken instead of the pastry.
Main course was some red curry thing and 'three taste squid' - ugh I was so excited about the three taste squid, oh foolish boy. It was essentially deep fried squid with rank chilli sauce on it - bleurgh. The curry was super super average.
On first perceptions you might think that this place is a golden bizarre find but no, it seems they spent most of their energy creating an interior that will distract you log enough not to notice that the food sucks.
