Mighty fine Vietnamese - Namo has found a formula. Well, it might not be completely original but it works and relies on great food, great service, a nice place... all delivering quality way beyond what you're charged for.

On the edge of Victoria Park, Namo is a cosy neighbourhood restaurant already well entrenched and popular, and far enough from the Vietnamese community in Hackney to stand out. But geography aside it’s the menu that really helps it do that.

Namo is more than traditional Vietnmese. Sure, you’ll find some old favourites like Nem (Vietnamese spring rolls) and mango salad, both fantastic, but there are also some new and inventive dishes that really stand out.

Chargrilled pork with black-eyed peas and a sweet and spicy tomato sauce is brilliantly conceived, as are the two monkfish dishes, one with coconut, the other with tamarind, and both heavy on the dill. Silky tofu with shitake mushrooms in a caramel soy sauce may sound odd but the blend of sweet and savoury makes it a perfectly rounded dish.

Namo should give anyone a good excuse to venture over to Victoria Park, rain or shine, though if it’s the latter then make the most of the garden at the back of the restaurant. 13-11-07
