St. James s Restaurant London Reviews

English Classic - We booked in here for afternoon tea when my mother in law was visiting. The floor is split into two areas - tables and chairs on one side and deep sofas on the other, with a tinkling pianist in the middle. If you're going for afternoon tea, make sure you ask for the comfy sofas which make for a very relaxing afternoon. We opted for 3 afternoon teas and a bottle of house champagne (better value than opting for three individual champagne teas). Food wise we got two canapés each (smoked salmon and a cheese pastry), a selection of finger sandwiches, some small scones and a choice of two cakes all presented on a tiered cake tray. All the food was very nice. We also had a pot of tea of our choice, all served on beautiful bone china. They also offer a "High tea" which includes a cooked/hot brunch style dish like eggs Benedict or scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Service was a little slow - once they brought us the food the waitress seemed to disappear into thin air and we had to ask for a refill of sandwiches and for more drinks. (In comparison to the afternoon tea at the Berkeley hotel where staff were super attentive, refilling plates/glasses as soon as they were empty). Having said that, this is a great place to bring parents/family for a true British afternoon tea - the surrounds are sumptuous and you can have a browse around the beautiful food hall afterwards.
