Huckers London Reviews

VERY UNSATISFIED -
The female barber was horrible! AVOID at all costs! She totally messed up my hair without even listening to my requirements beforehand. For ?26 I expected a decent service and professional haircut, but what I got was really bad and unsatisfactory.

Pat....IS a legend!!!! - I have been to see Pat on a number of occasions. Pat did a fantastically thorough job of soaking, scrubbing, filing, buffing and polishing my embarrassingly scabby feet into what looked and lasted like a dream! I've recently visited Champneys salon in St Albans to use some gift vouchers and their sloppy half-hearted pedicure reassured me of Pat's legendary status! Needless to say I will not be frequenting Champneys again....

Not near my hair - I popped into Huckers the other day, having decided to spend a little extra to ensure a good cut. Initially, I was satisfied with the classy(ish), relaxed feeling of the place as I waited for the next stylist to become available. When it came to my turn, the stylist neglected to ask my name or even make eye contact with me. I explained to the reflection of the side of her head what cut I wanted but was told by the indignant hairdresser that my request was impossible as "my hair was too straight", and therefore she could only take a centremetre off the whole thing: "That's the cut you want". Patiently, I endeavoured with the fact that that is what I had had before elsewhere and had been extremely satisfied. My appeal fell on deaf ears and I was told that it would look like a bad cut which she wasn't prepared to give. After continuing to my attempt to convey my knowledge of my own hair to the stylist, I decided that our relationship would blacken the final result of my trim and I relinquished to the arguement she seemed to be playing: that I should not have my hair cut at all.

And promptly walked out

None too agreeable - I visited this place for the first time recently, and was left with impressions somewhat different to those of the previous reviewer (though it's worth mentioning I just had a hair cut).

I've possibly been spoilt over the past few years by the service at my previous hairdresser's, as they do a quick and very good job (with very little chat, which I know appeals to some). What's more, this hasn't varied among the several people that have cut my hair over the time I've been going there.

The change of salon was down to the fact that I now live somewhere different, and that my latest hairdresser had been involved in an accident and was off work.

At Huckers, by contrast, I'd say that I was subjected to inane, petty, superior banter - yet when it came to haircut itself, communication was less than straightforward.

I didn't think £24.50 was so incredibly cheap for a place styled as a barber's, especially given the level of service. The hair cut also took a very long time, even before the salvage operation began. The phone calls that the hairdresser took interludes to receive were a contributory factor.

As for music, it was the usual commercial radio tracks, each of which was critiqued by my stylist (although he didn't change the station).

Another less than desirable element was the relentless reference to a local celebrity customer.

The hair cut itself was just about rescued in the end, although not without some indignation on the part of the coiffeur, and cut far shorter than I had intended in the process.

Having said all this, I naturally can't vouch for the services downstairs, which are doubtless an altogether different proposition. Nevertheless, surely any person old enough to be married should be beyond the stage at which they find it necessary to refer (especially in writing) to 'naughty bits'.

Wonderful people, real artists - Recently discovered these barbers. I've tried so many in Islington and most of the others are too trendy, full of pretentious folk who really don't care, and very expensive. The boss here, Dennis, is a really genuine guy, a traditionalist, with courteous manners, warm hearted & keen for his staff to do well. The atmosphere is very friendly, with lots of laughter, but not all that unnecessary chatter & gossip that seems to be the norm in some salons. No loud music, just a professional, dedicated air. Both gay & straight clients come here. The haircuts are fine, not overly trendy & certainly not expensive.

What I especially like is having a pedicure after my hair has been cut. I know that sounds odd for a man, but Pat, the new nail technician downstairs at Huckers is a revelation. She says a pedicure is not about painting the nails, but about foot care generally. I can honestly say that after 2 monthly pedicures, the skin on my feet is smooth and not flaky, & my big toenails which always used to hurt a bit, don't any more. She's a lovely , quiet & shy Jamaican who is on a mission to convert the world to monthly pedicures. I highly recommend her. She also does waxing, including the naughty bits (my wife tried her last week & was pleased). Her number is 07961560184. A new guy has just started downstairs too doing massages, so this is no ordinary barbers. Try them.
