Great curry, poor service - For the curry connoiseur there are no shortage of venues in the Northfields/ Ealing part of London. This ranges from the tired tradional types like Monty's, to Cardamon, which is a breath of fresh air.
Scrupulously clean, Cardamon follows in the vein of the Red Fort, and Mint Leaf by trying to modernise the curry house formula and you've got to say that they have succeeded. The food tastes really fresh and is always well presented, building on their ability to do basic things well i.e. papadoms.
My only gripe is the service which has dropped over the past few months, ever since the patriarchal owner left it in the hands of the young 'uns. Subsequently, the last time we went, we were offered a complimentary drink for completing their questionnaire... presumably to establish why numbers were dropping off. It is down to the miserable waiters who make it look like a chore to serve you, and generally make you feel guilty for wasting their time with your custom.
That said, over time they have built up too much goodwill for us to not go back, and there was a marked improvement on service last time out.
