Top of The Chocs - Feel like I am betraying a secret contact with this one but hey that's what Tipped is for...
I was turned on to Bertrand and Heather, the husband and wife team behind Plaisir du Chocolat, last August when a friend of mine brought me back a tiny box of four chocoloates from the Edinburgh television festival.
Inside the unpromising mint green box were four little piece of chocolate heaven. That sounds hyperbolic but I am only over-dramatising very slightly!
The difference between the chocolates these guys make and the competition is not only their amazing use of flavours but also way the chocolates are finished. The team use ingredients as varied as pepper, chilli, gunpowder tea, pomegranate, fresh ginger and wild heather honey in their chocolate and each one comes hand decorated, not quite sure how they do it, but it looks like a little painting.
I set up an account with them on the strength of those four chocolates and have sent gifts to over 200 people who all loved them. They also do these amazing limited edition Christmas chocolates but if you don't order them in approx October they all sell out. Heads up there...
Secret tip: if you're buying a lot of them buy them by the kilo and not per box it works out way cheaper
