My favourite place to buy food - I moved to Brixton Hill recently and was not happy to find the new place squidged between a tesco and a sainsburys - as someone who boycotted supermarkets a few years ago, I was not best pleased. But then... I found Spoon. On New Park Road (and a 2 min walk from my flat) Spoon is a lovely little deli - a haven of independent good food retailing in the rather bleak happy shopper/pound shop retail wasteland that is Brixton Hill.

Nell opened Spoon in 2007 and stocks a range of discerning food stuffs. The bread is AMAZING - how bread should be, and the range of meats, cheeses and fish are fresh, delicious and mostly with minimal packaging. She also makes her own pies and cakes which are good.

There's a wonderful sense of community, Nell seems to know everyone who walks through the door.

It's a brilliant deli, and if I had to change anything it would be to introduce a little more organic food - although to her credit, Nell does have a good selection of organic products already - I'm just a bit of a stickler for everything being organic.

Well worth a visit, a loaf of bread and a slice of cake. The bacon is pretty amazing too. 03-12-08
