Electricity Showrooms London Reviews

Sticky, Sticky Carpet - So I had passed this place dozens of times but never really ventured inside, apart from on a quiet weekday afternoon when I just needed a sit. This past weekend marks the first time I really gave the Electricity Showroom a proper visit.
As Charles mentions below, it is set across two floors, with a more or less standard issue pub on the ground floor. I actually quite liked this bit of the showrooms, it had a large bar and plenty of space for people to cluster or sit. They had some interesting choices when it came to draft beer, and I settled on a pint of Red Stripe, which is always a pleasant find. Although it was rather crowded, my friends and I managed to find a spacious booth close to the staircase to sit, which was great.
Downstairs, on the other hand, didn't really satisfy me. This, I suppose, is meant to be the club element of the Showrooms. It is dark and cramped, with low ceilings. It does have, as mentioned, a pretty impressive Saturday Night Fever style dancefloor that lights up in colours and patterns, which I would have to admit is pretty cool. The problem really is that, alongside this cool dancefloor is a thick and gross carpet that covers the rest of the floor. Who ever thought that carpet would be a good idea for a dark, drunken dancing room? Naturally, people are spilling their drinks all over the place, and I felt like I was sinking into quicksand if I stood in one place for any length of time. Gross.
So upstairs is nice, and I would even go back, but I'd probably stay away from downstairs (full disclosure: I am not a dancer, so it could well be that people who are focused on dancing couldn't care less about sticky carpets, who knows).

amazing dancefloor - This place used to be super grungy and run down and over the past few years has changed hands quite a few times but the new owners seem to have got it right.

You enter through a revolving door (which can actually get a bit tricky when people are leaving by the same exit) and step into a dark wooden panelled bar. Its spacious and there are plenty of tables to accommodate large groups of friends. There's a wide range of beers (the Canadian IPA being my favorite).

However its the dancefloor downstairs that sets this place apart - its one of those old school floors that lights up and it doesn't just flash it has colors and different settings so that it creates different patterns. I think they have various DJs at the weekend and its available for hire but when we were there the DJ played really good soul and r&b.
