Set on the edge of a small lake, the Tranquil Otter has 8 luxury lodges, some kitted out with private hot-tubs on the decking, others with private saunas. Enjoy the stunning views across the lake and simply relax and do nothing. If you feel energetic, take a lovely walk around the lake or drive into the Lake District if you fancy going further afield. Trust me, you won't want to leave. The lodges have all you need - beautiful kitchens, DVD players etc - and the little extras that make it delicious, including a log-burner and private rowing boat outside your door.

Need a romantic, secluded get-away? - Wow. This is one of those little tips you really don't want to be giving away!

A weekend at the Tranquil Otter surpassed all expectations and was without doubt the most stunning, relaxing, beautiful retreat mini-break I have ever had.
Easy to reach by direct train to Carlisle from London Euston, the best way for visitors from the south - and an absolute bargain if booked in advance. Take a 15 min taxi or hire a car from there - use Hertz in the station or Europcar (5-10 min walk away).

Absolutely perfect for a romantic retreat - I plan to go back again and again, and I am a fussy customer!! 31-10-07
