Charing Cross Railway Station London Reviews

Bustling station & a love story - This station has nothing much to distinquish it apart from being in the heart of London and there is a Victorian replacement of the original Eleanor Cross is in the forecourt. King Edward I touchingly had the crosses erected between 1291 and 1294 in memory of his wife Eleanor of Castile, marking the nightly resting-places along the route taken by her body as it was taken to London. Her body rested in the Royal Mews that stood on this site at the time, before being finally taken to Westminster Abbey for burial. (see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eleanor_cross for more information, including the possible meanings of "Charing").
