Located down a quiet mews off peaceful Charterhouse Square, Le Cafe du Marche offers a pleasant sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of the Square Mile. Inside, the popularity of this long established eatery means that it is constantly full. Conditions are cramped, but this does little to detract from the authentic French fare being served. Also popular at night when a live pianist plays. Booking is essential. Catering for private parties of up to 65 guests is available upon request.

Close your eyes and image France - This used to be a great favourite of mine about 5 years ago. Great example of a French Bistro - really interesting set menu: usually something for vegetarians - but really a place for carnivores (the chateaubriand steak and chips - with supplement) is apparently divine. My favourite was boiled egg and soldiers, yum!
There are two restaurants, I much prefer the one on the ground floor - it usually has a live pianist, sometimes accompanied by a someone on the double bass.
I stopped going about 3 years ago after a meal that wasn't up to scratch, but went back last year and I'm happy to report, it's back to its best.
Not the cheapest, can be a bit full of 'suits' during the week, but worth it. 13-11-07
