Awful - We asked VK kitchens and bedrooms (Village kitchens and bedrooms) to fit a new kitchen in 2006 following some building work that was to be carried out by their sister company JD property services. The initial building work went without a hitch although the builders were reluctant to remove the rubble that had collected and been deposited in the rear entry. This took several communications between ourselves and the company to get removed and I feel that had we not agreed to have further work done, this would not have been removed.
Next came the fitting of the kitchen and when the "fitters" eventually turned up after the start date being put back several times, the first thing they told us was " Oh, we won't do this and we won't do that and we refuse to do so and so" which kind of made me uneasy.
When they actually came to fit the kitchen, one "fitter" turned up and did half a day as he "Didn't know what to do next".
Rather than go through the whole story I shall list the problesm we had DURING the fitting (notice I say DURING).
1.They didn't know how to fit the fridge and freezer properly.
2.The cooker had to be plumbed in three or four times.
3.The work tops didn't match . I heard one of the "fitters" talking on his mobile to the boss. His part of the conversation went: "He's not noticed so we should get away with it".
4.The jointing of the work tops was awful with huge gaps in between the joints and the worktops at different levels.
5.They built an entire unit totally upside down with saw marks clearly visible on the inside.
6.They fitted the fridge and freezer wonky.
7.They lost the brackets to fit the door fronts to the fridge and freezer and when we got replacement brackets they decided not to fit them. Instead they used blobs of glue to stick the bottom of the door down.
8.All iron on edging strips were'nt straight and had chips in
9.All cornicing had huge gaps in between the joints.
10.Kick plates on the bottom of the cabintes didn't fit properly.
11.Plastering around the new sockets that were fitted looked as though it had been put on with a desert spoon.
12.The hinge recesses for one of the doors had been drilled wrongly and we had to wait a month for a replacement door.
During this time, we telephoned the compan with our concerns about how the work was progressing and was met with abuse and personal comments from the "charming" Gary.
Since the work was completed, the condition of the kitchen has deteriorated. the doors have "blown" (the outer skin has lifted off), the drawers and shelves in the poor quality fridge and freezer have long since broken and I have discovered a leak in my cold water pipe that they caused.
The "homeplus" guarantee is not worth the paper it is written on as we have discovered that your "cover" only starts when the company decide to send you an evaluation sheet and it is completed and sent to "homeplus".
This of course, depends on whether the company decide to send you this.
Basically, we have a £6,000 kitchen that is falling apart with no way of claiming any compensation.
Naturally, I would strongly urge anyone considering having work done by this company or any company owned and managed by John Potter and associates to avoid these cowboys.
