Not what I expected...

4.0 out of 5.0

December 20, 2008

I'm not sure what I expected. Bigger, maybe. A different crowd, absolutely.

I'd heard a lot of good things about Plastic People but I kind of expected it to attract a very specific type of person, what with it being in the heart of Shoreditch and all.

Well, the door is very inconspicuous, so I guess it really only attracts people that are going there as a destination, rather than people wandering by.

The music was GOOD. Electro and house, with heavy bass lines (you may wish to check the listings, as this varies from night to night).

The people were much less 'Shoreditch' than I expected; happy and up for it.

It's quite small but it wasn't too busy. The dancefloor is dark enough so that you can find a corner and do your thing, what ever that may be...

The sound system is very powerful indeed.

All in all, I really liked it. Sadly, it wasn't to my friends' tastes, so we left early and I didn't get a chance to dance as much as I would have liked.

I plan to have a messier night there very soon.

Small + Dark + Music

5.0 out of 5.0

If you don't go for the music this is not for you. It is not a cathedral by any means (well in a way it is) but a small austere monastry for people who don't like too many distractions apart from good tunes through a superb Funktion One system and a warm, full bass from 4 directions onto a quite small, black dance space at the end of the smallish room. Apart from the faint glow of a green emergency exit light, there is nothing else that would require your attention. Less chat, more music, less light, friendly people, no rip off. PP has been there for a few years now, check out Buzzin Fly for deep, techy and soulful tunes on a Sunday night (every first Sunday of the month). Because of the licence PP starts early and finishes in time to still be fit for a Monday morning at work if this should be a concern. Dressing up would be a waste of time, in PP you can't see a thing, except the bar area.
