no bananas but excellent coffee

We first came across the Blue Banana when looking for an alternative to the cafe selection under"The Arches"in Westcliff down the road. The exterior is minimalist in the extreme , like a cigarette packet on it's end.Inside it is light and airy with window area on the first floor that can be opened to provide very much a "balcony feel" which makes great use of Estuary views. The big plus however is the coffee. Really excellent.Also a selection of Paninis and great toasted sandwiches which are complimented by a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The owners are particularly unusual in that they help to create a very personal feel to the place by treating everyone as a valuable and interesting individual without being condescending in any way.The place is due for a major extension next year which I hope will provide a more extensive menu but without sacrificing the unique welcome and atmosphere that it currently offers
