Had me worried, but ok in the end.
July 10, 2011
Thursday 2nd June: Ordered freezer, paid £99 (price was not negotiable). Arranged for next day delivery.
Friday 3rd June: Freezer delivered. Very smelly. Noticed a bad dent at the back which was not visible in the shop, indicating the freezer has suffered a severe blow at some point. Also noticed that the auto-defrost drainage pipe was severed, so would drip on the kitchen floor.
Saturday 4th June: Freezer switched on and left running on 'fast freeze' setting
Sunday 5th June: 'fast freeze' turned off, left it on the 'plus' setting
Monday 6th June: Despite running all weekend, freezer still not cold enough to freeze water. Telephoned Secondhand City in the morning and was told someone would come and look at it between 3 and 6pm that day. At 7:45pm I received a phone call apologising for not arriving, and was advised that someone would phone around 9:30am Tuesday to arrange another time to come and look at it.
Tuesday 7th June: No phone call, but at 12:30pm, someone turns up at the doorstep to look at the freezer. Agrees it is not working and offers to arrange for a replacement. Measures up first, and says he will phone when he gets back to the shop in about 1.5 hours to check what is in stock. Phone call does not materialise today.
Wednesday 8th June: Phone call at 10:30am to say a new freezer has been allocated. I asked if we could have a look at it before accepting it and was told it was not in the shop just the storeroom, so they will bring it round between 4pm and 6pm and we can have a look at it then. 6:30pm, new freezer is delivered - it is smaller than the one we ordered (5 shelves instead of 6), but we are told that as soon as a 6 shelf model becomes available, they will swap it over for us. Cover is missing from top shelf (snapped off). Cleaned freezer thoroughly with sodium bicarbonate and lemon juice to get rid of the smell, and left open and unplugged overnight.
Thursday 9th June: 8:30am, switched on new freezer. Very noisy.
Friday 24th June: The freezer has been working, although very noisily, and Secondhand City seem to have forgotten about their promise to replace it with a larger one. Phoned to ask if they would buy the freezer back from us for £70. They agreed but said they don't do collections on Friday so will phone Saturday am.
Saturday 25th June: They did indeed phone back and arranged to come and pick up the freezer on Monday after 6pm.
Monday 27th June: Nobody turned up.
Thursday 30th June: I phoned Secondhand City to chase it up - they said they have it down for Monday 4th July after 6pm.
Monday 4th July: Nobody turned up.
Tuesday 5th July: 10am, phoned Secondhand City - they sincerely apologised that it was forgotten and promised to come out tonight with a FULL refund (£99) in cash. They did not turn up.
Wednesday 6th July 2:15pm: Secondhand City phoned to say that the van was not in Peterborough until after 8pm last night. They will come tomorrow night (Thursday) around 6pm, and will make ours the first job.
Thursday 7th July 6:35pm: Freezer collected, refund given. Result!
So, basically, not very reliable when it comes to making arrangements for collection/delivery, but they are NOT rip-off merchants and will honour their commitments in the end.
