Magnificent views atop a city icon

Not only is the London Eye beautiful to look at from afar, a ride in one of its capsules offers amazing views and a rather thrilling experience. I went at night, and it was wonderful to see the city lit up. Quite romantic, too.

The views of Parliament were the best, but there are plenty of other recognizable sights, like St. Paul's Cathedral and the Tate Modern. And the capsules are quite comfortable, since they're not overstuffed and there is plenty of bench and window space.

You can rent out a capsule for a private party, and if the line seems extra long, you can also buy a sort of fast pass that'll get you to the front of the line for a few extra quid. When I went on a January evening, though, we practically walked on with a general admission ticket, which was only £15 a person. I think we waited about 5 minutes.

Well. I haven't actually been on the London Eye yet, but I figure that if I write something cute here that I might have someone who is romantic invite me on a little whirl around the giant wheel for a nice view of London during a sunset with a cold glass of champers (you know I love that sort of treatment!) because I hear it is pretty awesome. Hmmmm... Any takers? Valentines day is approaching quickly. Act NOW and reserve a spot for me - oh and you too.

Not Just For Tourists

I can't remember the first time I went on the London Eye but it was years after they had put it up and I was kicking myself for having left it so long.

There's not really much to say about it really - it goes round and round (1 rotation takes about 40 mins) and costs about £10 and you can see all over London.

The thing that gets me though is that its mainly tourists that go on it when in fact Londoners would get so much from it - if you live within zone 2 you can probably see your house and there are so many things that you notice from way up there that you never notice stuck on the pavement - its great - if only Londoners got a discount I'd be up ther eonce a week.

On a sunny day, the view of London doesn't get any better. It takes about 45 minutes to finish the `ride` which is sort of slow, but it's a great thing to do with an out of town guest.
