Best Pub in the World

5.0 out of 5.0

October 09, 2008

The Mucky Pup may not be The Ultimate Pub, that would have more of my music on the juke and midgets riding ponies behind the bar. It'll just have to settle for being The Best Pub In The World.

Why? Well, it's all the usuals: beer, snacks... er a roof. And the bonuses: a smokingy bit and great pub rock in the box (Never can hear Back In Black or Whole Lotta Love too many times. I know. Jimmy Page told me). But the best bit is that no other pub has that your-own-front-room vibe like The Pup. You may not know the other punters but they're your friends. You may not know Kenny and Angus (landlords) but you will. The latter is a leather dandy and the former the rock'n'roll James Bond.

Because it's not on the main strip it doesn't get c*nt clientele, it's small but never claustrophobic and whether you want to read the paper alone or take 15 mates to get battered with it's a pub that leaves you with a warm feeling. Literally and metaphorically. An absolute diamond in the rough.

And I didn't even mention lock-ins.

super awesome super cosy

I don't really believe in destiny, like that people were meant to be together or that stuff happens for a reason - its all chance and coincidence and generally good stuff that happens is due to people making good stuff happen. Anyway if I did believe in that sort of stuff then I'd probably think that the Mucky Pup was built on an ancient awesome ground (as opposed to an ancient burial ground which tends to fuck shit up) as every thing about this place is awesome.

I used to come here a lot when it first opened as the Mucky Pup - it was so called as the landlords had a Mastiff puppy that was seriously the size of a small horse! Anyway not only was the horse awesome to play with but the pub was dog friendly and won a bunch of awards for it.

The new owners have a dog albeit much smaller but its super cute.

Anyway about the pub - its super cosy, has an awesome jukebox (they recently won some Time Out best jukebox thing) and they have good beers. Its the sort of place where after you've been a couple of times you could ask the landlords to put on your CD or charge your phone.

There's a pool table, dart board and an awesome garden out back with heaters so you can keep cosy whilst having a fag.

Essentially this is one of the friendliest pubs I've ever been to and even though I don't live in the neighbourhood anymore I always make a point of coming back every so often.
