OMG There are not enough nice things to say about the Curved Angel. I absolutely love love love everything about this place. Where to start?
The décor is a little haphazard and at lunch you might (read will) have to wait a while for a table, but that is part of its charm. It’s a place rooted in the community and is plastered with notices and bits and pieces. They also do a nice sideline in handmade cards. When it’s quiet it’s nice to sit here with a laptop (free wireless) and a coffee.
I mainly used to come here for lunch when I worked in the area. The food here is simple, hearty fare and is unbelievably fairly priced. The owners/staff are so friendly that you want to put them in your pocket and take them home. I remember 5 of us going and asking for tap water in that embarrassed way that we do automatically these days and the owner was like, ‘I can see you’ve been treated badly in the past, of course you can have tap water!’.
My tip: find space for dessert. They do a very good crumble.
Unbelievably laid back, genuinely friendly, great value and also across the road from the rather lovely Three Kings pub.

Been going here for almost a year now. Roy, the owner, is a great guy. Very friendly. Very cheap drinks and food too. I believe on Thursday nights they have an open mic too. Free wifi as well. Oh yeah, they only take cash.
