Decent Boozer with a Late License

3.0 out of 5.0

March 11, 2008

Some friends of mine and I found ourselves shoved out after last orders one night last week in Angel and were looking to carry on the charge. Fortunately, the Queen Bodicea was located conveniently close and has a late license, staying open until 2am without a cover.
Beyond its license, the Bodicea is also a pretty satisfying pub. It has a sort of circular structure, with a small entry way, a U-shaped main drinking area (including a number of cozy chairs and sofas) and then a function/dance room. The night we visited there were the remnants of a private hire going on, with a DJ spinning various tunes, although he eventually went too far into techno for my tastes.
The bar is well stocked, with a good selection of draft and bottled beers, as well as a full bar. The bar staff were quite friendly and fun as well, I had a good chat with one of them and was surprisingly coherent for 1:30am after a night of boozing, if I do say so myself.
With its sizable seating area, the Bodicea could conceivably be a good afternoon/evening pub as well, but my only experiences with it thus far are as a place to carry on the night in the wee hours - that's good enough for me!
