Get Thee To A Punnery
December 24, 2007
The pun-based business name is always dangerous in practice, particularly when the pun is a bit of a stretch, and I'm fairly sure I would have nixed the idea of "Feng Sushi" had it been my decision. But it wasn't my decision, and I do have to admit that I can easily remember the name. Still they probably break nine basic rules of feng shui before you even get to your seat (not that I'm an expert), and given how closely packed the communal high tables are, getting to your seat can be a bit of a tricky exercise if the place is busy.
Once you do get your seat, luckily there is some good food coming your way rather quickly. The sushi is good, not the best you'll find perhaps, but fresh and tasty. The real flavour stand-outs (and values) are some of the cooked items, like the soft-shell crab rolls, the delicious salmon cakes, and the soba noodle salad with lemon, rocket, and pine nuts. While certainly not a bargain, Feng Sushi does serve nice portions at reasonable prices, and the quality is consistently good.
Despite my minor grumble about table spacing, the overall ambiance is nice, and I love the big mildly ironic aquarium on the rear wall filled with fish that ought to be rather worried.
